With the show getting rave reviews so far, the actress who portrays Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Eve Best, opened up about the strange auditioning process she went through for the role and her first impressions of the show.
House of the Dragon
Set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is a spinoff based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood. The story focuses on the house Targaryen and the Targaryen civil war. In the center of the show are Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her best friend Alicent Hightower. This 10-part series premiered on HBO Max on August 21st and has been well-received by critics thus far.
Best Was Unprepared for the Game of Thrones Spinoff
Actress Eve Best stars in the House of the Dragon as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. However, the actress openly spoke about how she wasn’t in the loop when it comes to the popular series Game of Thrones when she auditioned for the new spinoff. The actress admits that she hadn’t watched the epic tale of the iron throne and the seven kingdoms that fans have been following through eight seasons. Best says she knew it was a big deal but wasn’t expecting the true scale of it. She recounts stepping on the set, surrounded by a crew of 4000 people, as a jaw-dropping experience.
An Odd Auditioning Process
Best revealed that, for the auditions for House of the Dragon, they had been sent a script from Game of Thrones with all the names changed. At that time, they weren’t even told the title of the new show. Once the real script was made available, Best loved the writing and the fact that her character was a dragon rider. Starring alongside her are Mat Smith in the role of Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, to name a few.
